Key responsibilities:
- Supervise and enforce safety regulations during the shift.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, national regulations, and industry standards related to occupational health and safety.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor high-risk activities, such as working at heights, confined space entry, or hot work, and ensure appropriate safety measures are in place.
- Respond promptly to any safety-related incidents or emergencies that occur during the shift.
- Investigate near misses, accidents, or injuries, document findings, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate first aid and emergency response, ensuring availability and readiness of emergency equipment like fire extinguishers, alarms, and first aid kits.
- Provide shift-specific safety briefings or pep talks to ensure that workers are aware of potential hazards.
- Assist in the training of employees on safe work practices, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and emergency procedures.
- Promote a safety culture through awareness programs, encouraging reporting of unsafe conditions or acts.
- Maintain records of daily safety activities, including inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit shift reports on safety performance, highlighting key observations and improvements.
- Ensure that permits to work (PTW) are properly issued, followed, and closed in accordance with site safety procedures.
- Identify potential hazards during shift operations and work proactively to eliminate or minimize risks.
- Perform dynamic risk assessments when conditions change or new tasks are introduced.
- Work with supervisors and operators to ensure that work is performed in accordance with safe operating procedures (SOPs).
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure safety protocols are integrated into all activities.
- Coordinate with safety officers, fire watch personnel, or first responders during critical tasks.
- Ensure proper maintenance and availability of safety equipment such as fire-fighting systems, gas detection equipment, and PPE.
- Assist external team to Monitor environmental conditions, such as air quality and noise levels, and take action to mitigate any adverse conditions.
